1. I think setting the deadline at the end of November should be fine. In this way writers would have one and a half month to write and we would have enough time to edit the drafts.
ReplyDelete2. Setting up an official email account for the magazine and recruit submissions through email would be the most convenient way for both us and the writers.
3. Genres of work should include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, photography, graphic design, etc. Formats rules should include: 12 font, Times New Romans, double space. Page number should be inserted. Include names, genre of work, contact information and titles on the top of the first page.
Specific requirement of the genres of work we receive:
Fiction: a good piece of fiction should inform and inspire. It should effectively arouse readers' emotions and make them feel something. It may not contain sophisticated lexicons but it brings the simple trivial to the philosophical meditation.
Nonfiction: a good piece of nonfiction should combine the specific and the universal. It should both show and tell people about related human experience.
Poetry: a good piece of good poetry should use precise and exquisite language to reveal a truth/reflection or tell a story, it should arouse pathos and make people think beyond the superficial.
Photography: any form of photography that draws the viewers think and feel things.
Visual arts: any creative visual art that attract attention and make the viewers think and feel things.

ReplyDelete1. Deadline for submission is November 8th because there is one month for people to create good literature and for us to have a better review.
2. They should submit their work digitally as attachments via emails. Then it will be convenient for us to receive their works and give feed backs to them quickly. I agree with Lotus's idea to set up an official email account, enabling us to collect works more efficiently.
3. We can receive fictions, poems and photos. Because of the limited number of English major students, it will be impossible for us to reviews so many works from others. Even if we can, the quality of reviewed works will not be guaranteed. And I think the quality prevails over quantity. Specifically, for fictions, they should use MLA format. For poems, there are not strict formats for them. For photos, the sharpness of photos should be guaranteed. Moreover, they should name their photos before submissions.

In the submission email, the authors need to offer their personal information, like name, year of study, major, email address. Besides, the email should also include the basic information of their works, such as the genre, topic.
Other requirements for submissions:
a. All the submissions should be written or taken by the students selves, and absolutely no plagiarize. There are needs citations if the author quotes some information from others.
b. Story should be interesting and special, we do not need the usual story that many others can write. It should have clear story plot and vivid characters, and also be meaningful.
c. Poetry should have the right format, and students need to learn it by them before they submit the works.
d. Photography should be taken by cameras but not by phones, because we need good quality photography.
e. About the topic, students can choose any topic they like except some sensitive issue of China and forbidden by governments, such as the Taiwan Issue.
1. I think we need around half a month at least to edit all the submissions and design the webpage, so it will be best to set the deadline between the midst and the end of November.
ReplyDelete2. It will be more convenient to use the official email account to call for submissions. In the official email, we can post personal emails of our chief editors of different genres to receive works from contributors who are interested in diverse fields.
3. General genres: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art
Formats: 12 font; Times New Romans; double space; page number on the top of the page; Create a new page including names, genre of work, and contact information.
Fiction: No content limitation. The image-shaping of characters is important. We will also be focused on details, tension and the deep meaning of a fiction.
Nonfiction: good use of rhetoric. It will be happy to see contributors writing about their own feelings about life in this genre.
Poetry: Cliché is never allowed in poetry. Word choice should be careful and precise, even better, be creative. The content is not limited, but please add your emotions to the poetry even if it is about the most common thing. If possible, we can add records of reading poems from contributors.
Art: includes photography and visual design. There is no limits on themes, but requires attractive subjects and high pixel. The work should be submitted with the contributor’s original purpose of taking the photo or creating the design.
1. I think the deadline for submission should be set on November 22nd. This semester ends on December 18th. If we set the deadline on November 22nd, contributors will have about six weeks to work and we will have about four weeks to edit and publish.
ReplyDelete2. We can consider two methods of submission: submit through our official email or through our official website. It we finally choose email, we should consider to have independent email accounts for different genre of works, in case of the large amount of entries. Also, submission must be attached to the mail as a Word file.
3. Genres: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, visual design, etc. All the submitted works must be original which have not been previously published. Submit different genres in separate document. Requirements of each genre are as follows:
1) Fiction: Double-space and 12 font format, with page number labeled. The fiction should be micro story or short story at present, because we have limited number of workers and we may not have the ability to deal with novels.
2) Nonfiction: Double-space and 12 font format, with page number labeled. Contributors should submit personal essays with creative and unique ideas. We should not accept unsolicited book review or critics on sensitive topics.
3) Poetry: The format of the poetry should not be limited. Besides traditional form of poetry, we can also consider hypertext poetry. Poetry in traditional format should be single-space and 12 font format, with page number labeled. No more than five poems at a time. Put all poems in one document.
4) Visual design: Any form of visual art is accepted, as long as the submitted work have creative and unique ideas. A short paragraph is required to explain the idea or the concept of the work. For photograph, it should be the original copy of work, which has the maximum image quality. Videos should be no more than 10 minutes, and with high definition.
1. The deadline: December 1 is a good due time. We have 2 months to prepare. We need time to design online magazine webpage. We should discuss detailed things about submissions and picking up them. In addition, submitters also need to write or create their works. In the e-mail, submitter should write self-introduction and introduce works briefly. 1. I think setting the deadline at the midst of November is appropriate. For authors, they might have some complete works so that some of them don’t need to spend much time. However, for editors who must spend a certain time to examine submit works every time LCR publishes, enough time is necessary.
ReplyDelete2. I think creating a submittable at LCR webpage is great. If we can do this, there should be a personal information sheet in which contributors need to fill in his name and contact information. Also, I would recommend setting some pre-options for contributors. For example, each contributor should confirm the genre and word length of his work when he submits, which saves a lot of time of classification.
3. Only accept previously unpublished works, and we will acquire First Time Publishing Rights.

3. Description of work we receive: Genres of our works could include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, photography works, relyric, and informal essay.
Fiction: Only unconventional stories will be accepted. We prefer wired stories rather than cliché.
Nonfiction: Nonfiction should combine seriousness, emotion, and fun.
Poetry: We encourage authors to use the images which others barely used.
Photography: Photographers should offer the information such as where they took the photos.
Re-lyric: Pick one famous song and relyric it. You can even sing it by yourself and post to Youtube, and send us the website.
Informal essay: There is no format for informal essay. Even one sentence is acceptable, as long as it is interesting enough.
